The Future Starts Here

Music

Music is an important part of the curriculum here at Ringway and in 2023-24 we obtained Music Mark School Membership "in recognition of a commitment to providing high quality music education for all children and young people".  We are a partner of MyHub - the music education hub for the City of Manchester - and deliver our curriculum through Kapow Music.

The Kapow Music scheme enables our pupils to reach the end of key stage targets outlined in the National Curriculum, combining the five strands below:

  • Performing
  • Listenting
  • Composing
  • History of Music
  • The inter-related dimensions of music

In addition to this, school offers weekly first access opportunities on the recorder to every pupil in Years 3 and 4 with a specialist teacher. We also have a fabulous school KS2 Choir who meet weekly after school and perform locally throughout the year. We also offer Year 5 and 6 children the chance to learn the violin for free. KS1 children have the opportunity to have ukulele lessons and KS2 children have the opportunity to take up guitar lessons, both through Front Row Music

We engage with MyHub through network meetings, musical events and working with partner Arts organisations.

Knowledge Organisers

If you would like to support your child at home or understand what they are learning in class, please click on your child's year group knowledge organiser.

Music Centres

If your child would like to extend their music learning outside of school, by playing in a group or learning a new instrument then please follow the links below to Manchester's Music Centres and the Music Hub. Although there is a small weekly membership fee, MyHub offer bursaries if this is a barrier - the process is straightforward and the centre leaders make an application. Any child can go and try and centre free of charge to see if they like it before signing up.
