Welcome to Year 1!

We’re so excited to welcome you and your child to Year 1 at Ringway! This is such a special year, full of curiosity, creativity and discovery, and we can’t wait to share the journey with you! At Ringway, we are passionate about learning through play. Our curriculum is taught in fun, active and engaging ways, with daily access to both indoor and outdoor provision. Children are encouraged to explore, question and grow in a nurturing and stimulating environment. Throughout the year, we’ll dive into exciting topics such as Toys from the Past, Explorers, and Kings and Queens. We also have some amazing trips planned to bring learning to life beyond the classroom. We’re looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter and adventure together!

In Year 1, phonics plays a vital role in helping children become confident, fluent readers. We teach phonics from 9am, so it’s really important that your child arrives on time each day to make the most of these essential lessons. Reading regularly at home makes a huge difference! Just 10 minutes a day can really boost your child’s progress and help them develop a lifelong love of books. Please try to read with your child every day by sharing stories, sounding out words together and talking about what you’ve read. These all help to build strong reading skills. By working together, we can help your child become a happy and successful reader!
